Paul Godfrey, producer and beat maker for Morcheeba joins forces with the musical legend Janko Nilovic.

Janko Nilovic is a pianist, poet and composer from Montenegro who has lived in France since 1960. He has a great number of published works, most of them on library labels not available for sale. He is a gifted musician with a wide range which includes funk, jazz, classical and psych. Janko recorded a multitude of albums for the Montparnasse 2000 library label, specialists in music for radio and tv, musical illustrators and soundtracks. His classic vinyl has always been held in high regard by collectors and most recently was famously sampled by such artists as Jay-Z and The Beatnuts.

Here in 2012, Janko Nilovic together with Paul Godfrey, has created new exclusive compositions recorded and produced authentically with vintage, analogue equipment. As well as the stereo mixes there are individual stems of each musical part allowing imaginative re-workings of the tracks. The music is perfect for synchronisation and sampling. Consider this an undiscovered gem.

Says Paul, “It had been a decade long dream of mine to collaborate with the prolific genius, Janko Nilovic. I’ve been collecting vinyl for 25 years but after discovering him in 2000 I was completely blown away! His vintage sound library is a gold mine. There is nothing else like it. We met in Paris in 2009 to discuss the possibility of working together. He chatted openly about being sampled by Jay-Z and also The Beatnuts. The meeting went well so he came to my studio in south-west France where we captured the new compositions. With the help of passionate musicians, it was wonderful to watch the hand written dots on the manuscript paper develop and grow into living, breathing melodies. He still sounds like nothing else.”

Morcheeba are very excited to announce our first live show of the year will be in United Arab Emirates.
 On 4th May, we’ll be joining Fat Boy Slim, Dizzee Rascal, Travis and many more for SANDANCE at Atlantis The Palm, Dubai.

As Skye said on her facebook page recently, “There won’t be many show’s this year, the focus is on writing for the new Morcheeba record which will be out next year.”

So we hope you can join us in Dubai or later in the summer for a sing and a dance.

Friend of the band, writer and explorer extraordinaire Richard Grant has made a brilliant documentary about the people of the south western states of the USA and their wanderlust. The film is called American Nomads and is based on his book of the same name.

And welcome to Morcheeba’s newest little fan. Our good friend Steve Osborn and his wife have just had a baby boy. Like all good hippies they were listening to a birthing compilation he made up especially. The baby arrived halfway through ‘Let Me Sea’ by Morcheeba!!! His name is Benjamin Lane Osborn and he lives in Texas.

What a great start to 2012! More good things to come… xxx
